Summary of Position: Assists clinical pharmacist staff by performing a variety of technical and clinical duties involved in providing medications for patients in a safe and timely manner. Drug distribution duties including ensuring the timely and quality delivery of medications, and preparing needed medication for pharmacist review. Responsibilities including the preparation and distribution of both routine and stat medications, including controlled substances and intravenous admixtures. Process patient charges and credits, maintenance of integrity of pharmacy stock, including review of expiration dates, stock rotation and appropriate stock par levels. Primary Job Responsibilities: Interprets fill list and delivery. Ensures timeliness of distributive functions, new and stat orders according to predetermined deadlines. Facilitates narcotic distribution and documents transfers to provide adequate levels in patient care areas. Meets NYS DOH and DEA documentation requirements. Prepares and packages medications with 100% accuracy after determining usage patterns. Maintains records related to this function. Performs arithmetic calculation for usual dosage determinations. Compound non-IV products with 100% accuracy. Processes patient specific charges to ensure timely posting of drug charges by accounting. Participates in quality assurance data collections. Maintains pharmacy stock review of expiration dates and rotation of stock. Ensures inventory management of assigned areas by routine ordering. Ensures distribution is never delayed due to preventable lack of supplies. Compounds intravenous admixtures in compliance with local, State, and federal guidelines . Minimum Qualifications: High school graduate or GED. Experience compounding intravenous admixtures preferred. Technician certification preferred. 6 months’ experience as a hospital pharmacy technician strongly preferred. Healthcare experience or a position dealing with inventory management can be substituted for pharmacy technician experience. Valid New York State driver's license required. Must be able to be approved to drive under Saratoga Hospital's auto insurance for travel to offsite locations.
